Recycling is available at the two Merced County landfills:

RECYCLE at no charge ( each category needs to be segregated from the other ):

Cardboard Office paper* Newspaper Magazines Glass jars Aluminum  Plastic beverage containers ( PET #1 ) Plastic bottles and jugs ( HDPE #2)

*Sample items of office paper: Copy paper Junk mail Slick or glossy paper, such as brochures ( not magazines ) Manila file folders

RECYCLE at low cost ( each category needs to be segregated from the other ):

Grass and leaves Wood, pallets, lumber, UNTREATED Prunings ( no oleander or palm leaves ) Metal Concrete, no dirt or protruding re-bar, and no larger than two feet in any direction Concrete, oversize and/or re-bar protruding more than 6 inches Asphalt Soil, clean and uncontaminated Plastic bottles and jugs ( HDPE #2)

Tires cannot be disposed of in landfills, however they are collected at the landfills.
Drop-off rates for tires are as follows:

$3 each passenger tire
$7 each semi-standard tire
$85 each tractor tire
$325 each loader tire
$645 each earthmover tire

Rims preferably are to be removed. Tires with rims $5 additional each.

NOTE:
It is unlawful to transport more than nine tires without a waste tire hauler certificate.  Highway Patrol can issue a citation for transporting tires over the limit without a waste tire hauler certificate. Contact (209) 385-7388 for specific compliance requirements.
