Most households have one or many types of HHW including oil, paints, solvents, antifreeze, car batteries, household batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals and many more chemicals.Chemical containers can pose a danger to children if they are not stored and labeled properly and securely. Always store like-chemicals together and separate incompatible chemicals as they could react with each other if the containers leak. In the event of a leaky container, place the whole, labeled container in a larger secondary container and transport it to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.

When purchasing products that contain hazardous chemicals, consider buying smaller containers so that the chemicals are used up and not stored for a long period of time.
