Merced
County’s Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority (JPA) received funding from
the Department of Conservation, Division of Recycling to fund programs
directly related to California Refund Value (CRV) beverage container
recycling. Merced County
Association of Governments (MCAG) Source Reduction and Recycling Program
is responsible for implementing the county’s CRV beverage container
recycling programs.
A
portion of this funding is being used to purchase recycling bins to be
donated to any Merced County school hosting one or more Pepsi (or other
soft drink) vending machines, with the expectation of raising recycling
rates for plastic CRV beverage containers. Schools whose cafeterias sell
sport drinks, juice and/or bottled water are also eligible to participate,
as these types of beverages carry the CRV tax and therefore have a refund
value.
Schools
provide the perfect atmosphere to capture a high concentration of empty
CRV beverage containers at a low cost.
In this campaign, each school will maintain and service its own
recycling bins. In return,
all recycling proceeds will directly benefit that school.
To
date, 65 recycling bins have been donated to area schools. If your school
is interested in participating in the “CASH-IN” recycling campaign,
call (209) 723-3153. |
